A RESOLUTION

Congratulating O'Neil Bell; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, O'Neil Bell has won the 2005 World Boxing Commission Cruiserweight Title; and

WHEREAS, this triumph caps an incredible boxing career for this potent pugilist who has compiled an outstanding record of 24 wins, one loss, and one draw; and

WHEREAS, trainer James Plenty guided him to victory with strong leadership and determination; and

WHEREAS, O'Neil Bell trained at the legendary Atlanta Art of Boxing in preparation for this great challenge; and

WHEREAS, the World Boxing Commission is comprised of talented athletes such as O'Neil Bell, Evander Holyfield, and Vernon Forrest; and

WHEREAS, thanks to much hard work and a dedication to excellence, Mr. Bell has brought great honor to the city of Atlanta and the community by winning this prestigious title; and

WHEREAS, in an astonishing display of skill, O'Neil Bell was catapulted into boxing's elite upper echelon when he knocked out his opponent, Jean-Marc Mormeck, and became the first fighter since Evander Holyfield to unify the cruiserweight title; and

WHEREAS, O'Neil Bell epitomizes the courage, determination, leadership, and character necessary to attain excellence in athletic prowess and performance and to achieve success as an individual and a citizen; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the superlative skills and outstanding accomplishments of this renowned ring warrior be recognized appropriately.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend O'Neil Bell for his unprecedented athletic performance, congratulate him upon his attainment of world cruiserweight champion, and wish him all possible success as he begins the defense of his boxing title.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to O'Neil Bell.
