Senate Resolution 1304

A RESOLUTION

Honoring the life of Raymond Green; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, on March 14, 2006, the State of Georgia lost one of its finest and most distinguished citizens with the passing of Raymond Green; and

WHEREAS, he entered this life on March 16, 1945, the third of seven children entrusted to the care of the late David Green, Sr., and Bernice High Green; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Green was educated at schools in Americus and Sumter County before attending the South Georgia Technical College and the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, at an early age he dedicated his life to the service of others; and

WHEREAS, he joined the Friendship Baptist Church, where he served as an usher and later moved his membership to the Big Bethel Baptist Church to be with his family; and

WHEREAS, at Big Bethel he served faithfully in many capacities, including the usher ministry, the male choir, and the deacon ministry; and

WHEREAS, in 1994, he was elected to represent the City of Americus, District 5, on the City Council, where he carried out his commitment to serving his constituents and the entire municipal population for more than 12 years in the hopes of making the community a better place to live and to work; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Greeńs work in the mobile home industry, insurance field, entrepreneurship, and Sumter County schools were labors of love; and

WHEREAS, he had a special place in his heart for students and always prayed for them; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Reynolds also found time to be an active member of the GWF Phillips Elks Lodge #691 of Americus, Georgia, and the Saint John Masonic Lodge #17; and

WHEREAS, the passing of this great Georgian leaves an unfillable void in the hearts and lives of his family and friends.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body honor the life and achievements of Mr. Raymond Green and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. Raymond Green, the membership of the Big Bethel Baptist Church, and the officers of the GWF Phillips Elks Lodge.
