By: Senators Hill of the 32nd, Adelman of the 42nd and Weber of the 40th

A RESOLUTION

Commending the Weber School; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Weber School is a new endeavor on the landscape of Jewish high school education, an independent community institution where Jews from every background and affiliation explore the complexities of Jewish thought and belief while engaging in a rigorous, integrated college preparatory program; and

WHEREAS, the school was founded in 1997 with 19 students and is today a flourishing learning community of 158 pupils that is dedicated to celebrating what Jews have in common while understanding and respecting differences; and

WHEREAS, the mission of the Weber School is to cultivate young leaders who will shape the future of the Atlanta Jewish community with a new paradigm in Jewish education that has been recognized nationally and internationally; and

WHEREAS, the school's immense success has made it a model for similar schools in Cleveland, Detroit, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and San Francisco; and

WHEREAS, the Weber School received accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) within the first two years of the school's existence, setting a SACS record; and

WHEREAS, the school asks students to challenge themselves and each other to explore who they are and where they come from by creating experiences, such as the Senior Israel Experience, Tefillot and Shabbatonim, for the many Jewish communities to come together to support shared beliefs and practices; and

WHEREAS, in its less than ten-year history, the Weber School has proven itself to be one of Georgia's finest high schools, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that its many exceptional academic accomplishments be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in commending the Weber School and recognize this distinguished institution's many contributions to education in Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Steve Berman, President of the Weber School; Dr. Simcha Pearl, Head of School; and Nanci Pearson, Principal.
