A RESOLUTION

Commending Georgia's restaurant industry; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, there are over 20,000 food service and drinking establishments in Georgia, providing our citizens with nourishment and a relaxing atmosphere in which to unwind from the daily stresses of their busy lives; and

WHEREAS, whether it be for a quick bite at lunch for sustenance or a night out on the town to commemorate a special milestone, Georgians turn to restaurants for delicious food and gracious hospitality and as a way to celebrate many of life's most memorable occasions; and

WHEREAS, Georgia's eating and drinking establishments generate annual sales in excess of $12 billion and provide more than 375,000 jobs, employing more people than any other nongovernment sector in the state and making their industry vital to Georgia's economy; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Restaurant Association is an advocacy organization devoted to giving a voice to the concerns of the state's restaurateurs and food service industry; and

WHEREAS, considering the prominent role restaurants play in our culture, it is most fitting for this body to pay tribute to the invaluable services they provide to our state's residents and visitors every day of the year.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in commending Georgia's restaurants for the hospitality, comfort, and good times they provide to our citizens and recognize the important contributions they make to the state's economy.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Georgia Restaurant Association.
