A RESOLUTION

Commending the Together Rx Access Card program and its participating pharmaceutical companies; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, more than 1.38 million Georgians, 20 percent of the state's non-elderly population, do not have health insurance, including 13 percent of the state's children; and

WHEREAS, unless they have the resources to pay for staggeringly expensive treatments out of their own pockets, uninsured individuals have limited access to proper health care; and

WHEREAS, all Georgians deserve access to the medications they need in order to care for their health; and

WHEREAS, in January 2005, the Together Rx Access Card program was launched by ten pharmaceutical companies to help low-income, uninsured individuals and families gain access to prescription medications and products at savings of 25 to 40 percent; and

WHEREAS, this free, easy-to-use program is offered by the following pharmaceutical companies: Novartis, GlaxoSmithKline, Abbott Laboratories, AstraZeneca, Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, sanofi-aventis Group, Takeda, and TAP Pharmaceutical Products, Inc.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join together to commend the Together Rx Access Card program and its participating pharmaceutical companies for their efforts to help uninsured Georgia residents gain greater access to prescription products.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to the above-named pharmaceutical companies that participate in the Together Rx Access Card program.
