Senate Resolution 12

A RESOLUTION

Commending William E. "Bubber" Wilkes for his exemplary public service; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, since 1973, Commissioner William E. Wilkes has enjoyed a successful career as a self-employed farmer and has demonstrated his expertise and dedication to the farming community through his service in numerous leadership positions such as Chairman of the ASCS, Director of the Oconee County Farm Bureau, and President of the Clarke-Oconee Cattleman's Association; and

WHEREAS, Commissioner Wilkes has consistently exhibited his commitment to the betterment of his community, serving on the Athens Chamber of Commerce, the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce, and the Oconee County Board of Commissioners, a post he has held since 1985; and

WHEREAS, as a member of the Upper Oconee Water Basin Authority, the Upper Oconee Basin Water Authority's Recreation Committee, and the Association County Commissioners of Georgia Public Safety Committee, Commissioner Wilkes has helped to preserve the natural resources of his community and protect its current and future citizens; and

WHEREAS, it is most fitting and proper for this body to recognize the contributions of Commissioner William E. Wilkes, who has truly epitomized all that is best in a public servant through his patience, hard work, and high ethical standards.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in recognizing Commissioner William E. "Bubber" Wilkes for his many outstanding contributions to Oconee and Athens-Clarke County and to the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Commissioner William E. "Bubber" Wilkes.
