Senate Resolution 1198
By: Senator Miles of the 43rd

A RESOLUTION

Commending Gretchen and William Winfield; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, few Georgians have done more to help children in need of love and care than Gretchen and William Winfield, who have opened their homes and their hearts to over 50 foster children; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Winfield has desired to be a foster mother for much of her life, motivated by her own childhood experience of being placed in a foster home along with her brother while their father served overseas; and

WHEREAS, she later met and married Mr. Winfield, who was also ready and willing to become a foster parent; and

WHEREAS, together, this extraordinary couple has fostered 54 children through Families First, a nonprofit agency in Atlanta, has adopted three of their foster babies, and is in the process of adopting a fourth; and

WHEREAS, thanks to their compassion, generosity, and loving and caring spirits, Mr. and Mrs. Winfield have touched the lives of so many of Georgia's children, and their selfless and dedicated service as foster parents is truly an inspiration to all.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in commending Mr. and Mrs. Winfield for their many years of tireless service as foster parents and thank them for their impressive and inspiring commitment to children in Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. and Mrs. Winfield.
