Senate Resolution 1115

A RESOLUTION

Congratulating and commending Tony Scipio on his appointment as Chief of Police for the City of Clarkston and for his years of dedicated service to the citizens of this state; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Tony Scipio was appointed to serve as the Chief of Police for the City of Clarkston and is the first African American to hold this position; and

WHEREAS, he has had a long and exceptional career serving the citizens of Georgia, oftentimes with great risk and sacrifice to himself; and

WHEREAS, his dedicated law enforcement career includes serving with the Cobb County Sheriff́s Office, the Douglas County Sheriff́s Office, and most recently the DeKalb County Sheriff́s Office where he achieved the rank of major; and

WHEREAS, he has served the Georgia Bureau of Investigation on metro fugitive and narcotics task forces and has also served on assignments with the United States Customs Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the United States State Department; and

WHEREAS, the City of Clarkston is made up of citizens from more than 200 different countries who speak more than 54 different languages; and Tony Scipio is committed to serving this culturally diverse population, demanding of his officers that "all citizens be treated with respect" and requiring his officers to be trained in cultural awareness issues; and

WHEREAS, Tony Scipio is a dedicated husband to his wife Cartrina Scipio, and a loving father to their daughters Tiffani and Courtney.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Tony Scipio for his years of sacrifice and honorable service and congratulate him on his appointment as Chief of Police for the City of Clarkston and he is extended the sincere best wishes of each member of this body for success in future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Chief Tony Scipio.
