RESOLUTION
Commending
Mr. Ernest Raymond Prather; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Ernest Raymond Prather, a native of Atlanta, has dedicated almost 40 years
to the field of education, including 35 years working as a teacher and later a
guidance counselor at the historic Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta;
and
WHEREAS,
during the course of his career, Mr. Prather, an alumnus of Morehouse College
and a graduate of the University of Georgia with a Master of Education in
Guidance and Counseling, has thoughtfully and compassionately guided thousands
of students to rewarding postsecondary educational and career opportunities, and
even after his official retirement in 2001, Mr. Prather has served as a
consultant to the counseling staff and students at Washington High School;
and
WHEREAS,
throughout his life, Mr. Prather has also applied his passion for helping others
to his active participation in his community, including his involvement with the
Columbia Drive United Methodist Church, where he has served as Lay Leader and
Chair of the Staff Pastor Parish Relations Committee, among other roles;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Prather organized the Toney Gardens Civic Association in 1980, and a year
later the Annual Achievement Awards Program, which recognizes the achievements
of high school graduates with book scholarships and the service of citizens with
Outstanding Service Awards; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Prather, who has been honored extensively by his community with such
achievements as the 1996 Atlanta Public
Schoolś
High School Counselor of the Year award and the Lou Walker Citizenship Award, is
an inspiration to us all by demonstrating the profound effect one
mańs
work can have on so many.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
commending Mr. Ernest Raymond Prather for a lifetime of service to his
community.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Ernest Raymond
Prather.
