RESOLUTION
Expressing
sorrow at the passing of Lance Corporal Samuel W. Large, Jr.; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Georgia lost one of its most heroic citizens on February 17, 2006, when Lance
Corporal Samuel W. Large, Jr., died in a helicopter crash off the coast of
Africa; and
WHEREAS,
endowed with a strong love of country from an early age, Lance Corporal Large of
Villa Rica entered the Marine Corps after finishing high school; and
WHEREAS,
Lance Corporal Large's service with the Marines was marked by his courage and
loyalty to helping others, and he was a tremendous asset to the United States
during his deployment in Djibouti as part of the Combined Joint Task Force-Horn
of Africa; and
WHEREAS,
Lance Corporal Large is survived by a loving and devoted family, including his
wife, Whitney Large; his nine-month-old son, Tyler Large; his parents, Samuel
and Ada Large; his two sisters, Samantha and Courtney Large; and his
grandmother, Daisy Hayes; and
WHEREAS,
the death of Lance Corporal Large leaves an unfillable void in the hearts of all
who knew and loved this exceptional gentleman and he will always be fondly
remembered for his friendly, easy-going persona and kind and gentle spirit;
and
WHEREAS,
it is most fitting for the State of Georgia, its citizens, and the members of
this body to pay tribute to the noble and selfless service of Lance Corporal
Large, who devoted his life to serving his country and his fellow man with the
greatest dignity and honor.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join
together to express their deepest sorrow at the passing of Lance Corporal Samuel
W. Large, Jr., and extend their most sincere condolences to his family and
friends.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Whitney Large.
