RESOLUTION
Commending
Mrs. Lucille Craig; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
throughout her life, Mrs. Lucille Craig has been making the world a better place
with her kindness, compassion, and generosity; and
WHEREAS,
born in Morganton, Georgia, on April 14, 1923, Mrs. Craig was one of ten
children born to Crawford and Laura Beaver; and
WHEREAS,
beginning with her time in "cradle row," where all the newborns and their
mothers sat, Mrs. Craig has been a faithful member of Morgantown Baptist Church
for most of her 83 years; and
WHEREAS,
during her youth, she was known for her athleticism and played basketball for
her high school in Morganton; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Craig married Sonny Craig when she was 16 years old, and this loving couple
has been blessed with three children, Bill, Robert, and Laura, and five
grandsons, Gene and Brian Nix, and Billy, Eric, and Mark Craig; and
WHEREAS,
she spent many years in the local school system as a tutor and mentor of special
needs children; and
WHEREAS,
in recent years, Mrs. Craig has dedicated her time and energy to supporting
missionaries all over the world through a church group called "Women on
Mission," selling collected cans and encouraging others to match her proceeds to
give to the mission project; and
WHEREAS,
a warm and gracious lady who epitomizes southern hospitality, Mrs. Craig's door
is always open to her church and community, and her household has hosted many
neighborhood ball games in the lot behind the house; and
WHEREAS,
an inspiration and second mother to the many children who have visited her home
over the years, Mrs. Craig is beloved by the countless people who have been
touched by her sweet and constant spirit.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
commending Mrs. Lucille Craig for her lifetime of service to her community and
thank her for her many contributions to Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Lucille Craig.
