A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT

To amend Code Section 44-12-300 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to state recognition of American Indian tribes, so as to officially recognize the American Cherokee Confederacy; to provide for an effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

SECTION 1.
Code Section 44-12-300 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to state recognition of American Indian tribes, is amended by striking subsection (a) and inserting in lieu thereof the following:
"(a) The State of Georgia officially recognizes as legitimate American Indian tribes of Georgia the following tribes, bands, groups, or communities:
(1) The Georgia Tribe of Eastern Cherokee
  P. O. Box 1993
  Dahlonega, Georgia 30533;
(2) The Lower Muscogee Creek Tribe
  Route 2, Box 370
  Whigham, Georgia 31797; and
(3) The Cherokee of Georgia Tribal Council
  Saint George, Georgia 31646; and
(4) The American Cherokee Confederacy, Inc.
  619 Pine Cone Road
  Albany, Georgia 31705-6908."

SECTION 2.
This Act shall become effective upon its approval by the Governor or upon its becoming law without such approval.
SECTION 3.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
