BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
AN ACT
To
amend Code Section 44-12-300 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating
to state recognition of American Indian tribes, so as to officially recognize
the American Cherokee Confederacy; to provide for an effective date; to repeal
conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
BE
IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION
1.
Code
Section 44-12-300 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to state
recognition of American Indian tribes, is amended by striking subsection (a)
and inserting in lieu thereof the following:
"(a)
The State of Georgia officially recognizes as legitimate American Indian tribes
of Georgia the following tribes, bands, groups, or communities:
(1)
The Georgia Tribe of Eastern Cherokee

SECTION
2.
This
Act shall become effective upon its approval by the Governor or upon its
becoming law without such approval.
SECTION
3.
All
laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
