RESOLUTION
Commending
2005 Georgia MATHCOUNTS third place state champion Miles Edwards; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Miles Edwards of Mabry Middle School outscored other students to win honors at
Georgiás
state MATHCOUNTS competition; and
WHEREAS,
this sensational mathlete will represent the state at the national competition
held in Washington, D.C., as a member of the 2005 Georgia MATHCOUNTS Team, which
will be led by team coach Kent Hite of Chamblee Middle School; and
WHEREAS,
MATHCOUNTS is the second nation-wide mathematics competition for junior high and
middle school students; and
WHEREAS,
the mission of MATHCOUNTS is to increase interest and involvement in mathematics
among middle school students in order to assist in developing a technically
literate population and future work force essential to this
natiońs
global competitiveness and its quality of life; and
WHEREAS,
for a tremendous performance in state-wide competition and selection to
represent the State of Georgia in national competition, it is wholly fitting and
proper that this fine young scholar be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend
Georgiás
MATHCOUNTS third place state champion Miles Edwards and extend their best wishes
for future success and victory as the 2005 Georgia MATHCOUNTS Team prepares to
participate in the national competition.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Miles
Edwards.
