A RESOLUTION

Celebrating the proud history of Milton High School and expressing best wishes on the opening of the school's new site; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, in 1921, the year of its founding, Principal W. T. Harris first rang the bell to begin classes at Milton County High School, and, since that time, the Milton Eagles have built a long and proud history of academic and athletic success at their home in the heart downtown Alpharetta, 86 School Drive; and

WHEREAS, now a part of the Fulton County School System, today's Milton High School is currently the oldest school in Fulton County still located on its original site; and

WHEREAS, this superlative school has earned numerous state, regional, and national distinctions, including its recent listing in Newsweek magazine among the best high schools in the United States; and

WHEREAS, Atlanta magazine featured Milton High School as one of a handful of schools that "have it all," citing its excellence in academics, sports, and the fine arts; and

WHEREAS, with their renowned talent, the mighty Eagles captured the 2003 Georgia State Boys Tennis title and the 2004 Class AAAAA State Baseball Championship; and

WHEREAS, on August 15, 2005, nearly two thousand Milton students will walk between the magnificent columns of the school's new location at 13025 Birmingham Highway in Alpharetta and, though walking down new halls of learning, they will carry with them the proud traditions that make Milton High School a leading school in the State of Georgia.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in celebrating the many successes of Milton High School and extend their sincere best wishes to the school's students, teachers, and administrators as they relocate to their impressive new home on Birmingham Highway in Alpharetta, Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Milton High School.
