RESOLUTION
Commending
the Georgia Reader's
Digest National Word Power Challenge
two-time state champion Billy Dorminy and recognizing the Houston County Joint
Certified Literate Community Program and its director, Robert Getter; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Billy Dorminy, a home educated student from McDonough, Henry County, outscored
more than 4,000 other students to win top honors at Georgia's state Word Power
competition for the second year in a row; and
WHEREAS,
this intelligent young man will again represent the state at the national
competition held at Disney World near Orlando, Florida, as the Georgia
representative; and
WHEREAS,
Word Power is the premier nation-wide vocabulary competition for middle school
students and is sponsored by the
Reader's
Digest Association; and
WHEREAS,
the mission of Houston County Joint Certified Literate Community Program is to
increase the literacy levels of all people in Georgia, and this competition
inspires literacy excellence; and
WHEREAS,
Robert Getter is the executive director of the Houston County Joint Certified
Literate Community Program and the coordinator for the Georgia state Word Power
Challenge; and
WHEREAS,
for Billy Dorminy's tremendous performance in state-wide competition and in the
2004 national competition and his selection to represent the State of Georgia
again in the 2005 national competition, it is wholly fitting and proper that
this fine young scholar be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Georgia
Reader's
Digest National Word Power Challenge state
champion Billy Dorminy; recognize his selection to represent this state as both
the 2004 and 2005 Georgia Word Power champion; and express their best wishes for
future success and victory as he prepares to participate in the national
competition as well as expressing their thanks to the Houston County Joint
Certified Literate Community Program and its director, Robert Getter, for
encouraging the pursuit of literacy state wide.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to each of the
individuals named herein and to the Houston County Joint Certified Literate
Community Program.
