A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
First Baptist Church of Stapleton, Georgia, for its 100 years of service; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
First Baptist Church of Stapleton, Georgia, was founded on the first Sunday of
December, 1905; and
WHEREAS,
under the steadfast leadership of Reverend R. J. Johnson and Reverend J. W.
Whitehead, the 99 founding members purchased pews from Reedy Creek Baptist
Church and raised a new church building on two acres of land sold to the
congregation by Mr. Walter Stapleton for $200.00, who generously donated $50.00
of the amount himself; and
WHEREAS,
the building was rushed on the first Sunday in October of 1906, and the new
house was dedicated by Dr. C. T. Walker, Reverend G. S. Kilpatrick, and Reverend
W. H. Irby; and
WHEREAS,
for the past century, First Baptist Church has been a symbol of faith and
service to the Stapleton community and has benefited from the excellent
leadership of nine wonderful pastors who each guided the congregation with great
care, compassion, and dedication; and
WHEREAS,
2005 marks the 100th anniversary of First Baptist Church, and it is abundantly
fitting and proper that its proud heritage and traditions be recognized on this
significant and memorable milestone.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in honoring First Baptist Church of Stapleton, Georgia, on the
momentous occasion of its 100th anniversary and extend their sincere
congratulations and best wishes to each member of the congregation.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to First Baptist
Church of Stapleton, Georgia.
