A RESOLUTION

Honoring the life of Virginia Mae Hines Thompson and expressing regret at her passing; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Virginia Mae Hines Thompson was born on June 5, 1918, one of 12 children of the late Reverend Earl Hines and Mable Self Hines; and

WHEREAS, she lived her entire life on the south side of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she attended public schools; and

WHEREAS, she was a devoted member of the First Waughtown Baptist Church, where she actively participated in the Sunday Schooĺs Womeńs Bible Class, the Senior Missionary, the Mass Choir, and mid-week Prayer and Bible Study; and

WHEREAS, she was widely known as and greatly appreciated for being an outspoken activist and advocate for the rights of her fellow human beings; and

WHEREAS, she suffered and endured much loss during her lifetime, including her husband, James Fred Thompson, and five of her children; and

WHEREAS, she leaves a legacy of love in the persons of her surviving children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body honor the life of Virginia Mae Hines Thompson, express their regret at her passing, and extend their condolences to her family.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Virginia Mae Hines Thompson.
