RESOLUTION
Commending
former Senator Peg Blitch; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Senator Peg Blitch served with unparalleled ability as a member of the Georgia
General Assembly beginning in 1990, when she served one term in the House of
Representatives, until 1992, when she was elected to the Senate and reelected
each term until her retirement in 2004; and
WHEREAS,
this dedicated public servant faithfully represented the diverse citizenry of
the 7th District with great energy, intelligence, and ability; and
WHEREAS,
over the course of her distinguished public career, Senator Blitch was highly
esteemed by her colleagues for the insight and efficiency she contributed as an
experienced and successful businesswoman, for her persistent dedication to
Georgia's citizens, and for the friendship and distinction she brought to
legislative deliberations; and
WHEREAS,
she was the first woman in 40 years to be appointed to chair a Senate Standing
Committee, the last being her late mother-in-law, Iris F. Blitch;
and
WHEREAS,
since her retirement from the General Assembly, Senator Blitch has continued to
dedicate her time and talents to the betterment of the State of Georgia by
serving as a trustee of the Georgia Civil War Heritage Trails and a board member
of the Okefenokee Education and Research Center and received the Liberty Bell
Award from the Alapaha Bar Association for her outstanding community service and
dedication to securing the "blessing of liberty" guaranteed by the Constitution
for present and future generations.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in commending Senator Peg Blitch's continued service on behalf of
the citizens of this state.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Senator Peg
Blitch.
