RESOLUTION
Commending
Tasha Humphrey; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Tasha Humphrey was named SEC Freshman of the Year by league coaches and media
and co-National Freshman of the Year by the USBWA and is one of two unanimous
first-team All-SEC selections and the top-scoring freshman in the nation,
ranking 22nd overall; and
WHEREAS,
she ranked 14th nationally in field goal percentage, reaching double-figures in
28 of 30 games, including 15 with 20 or more points and two with more than 30,
and scored 33 points against LSU in the semifinals to earn a spot on the All-SEC
Tournament team; and
WHEREAS,
she is only the second freshman to be named SEC Player of the Week following her
collegiate debut, one of only seven players in league history to be named SEC
Player of the Week three times in the same season, and the first freshman in SEC
history to be named SEC Player of the Week twice in the same month;
and
WHEREAS,
she took all of 7:34 to reach double digits in the season opener against Furman,
finishing with 25 points, the third-best career-opener in Lady Bulldog history,
poured in 27 points–including 24 in the second half–to lead Georgia
over number two Texas, and scored 14 points at Marist after suffering a one-inch
gash under her chin late in the first half; and
WHEREAS,
she dominated in the SEC opener, scoring nine points and grabbing five boards in
the first 6:10, and recorded unparalleled double-doubles in the first six SEC
games; and
WHEREAS,
she accomplished all of the aforementioned despite facing double- and
triple-teams almost constantly throughout the season.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES
that the members of this body commend Tasha Humphrey for her outstanding athletic ability and for her remarkable performances so far this season.
