RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending local football star and Rome-Floyd Sports Hall of Fame inductee,
Roger Weaver; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Roger Weaver was a West Rome High School Chieftain, playing for the football
powerhouse from 1965 to 1968; and
WHEREAS,
during his freshman year, he helped his team win the region title, contributing
289 net yards with 56 rushes for an average gain of over five yards per carry;
and
WHEREAS,
he continued to demonstrate his amazing talent as a running back, accumulating
an amazing 1,198 rushing yards to earn the 6-AA rushing honors and helping push
the Chieftains toward another regional crown in 1966 and then boosting the
mighty "green and white" to a third consecutive regional championship in 1967,
handling the ball 516 times for a total of 2,923 yards and receiving Back of the
Year honors; and
WHEREAS,
his athletic talent extends to the track team and the boxing ring where he
earned the 1964 Georgia Golden Gloves Championship and the 1970 Alabama
Championship; and
WHEREAS,
he has inspired many young athletes through his work with young boxers and
recreation league sports; and
WHEREAS,
on March 10, 2005, Roger Weaver was inducted into the Rome-Floyd Sports Hall of
Fame in recognition of his many outstanding achievements as a local sports
legend.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in recognizing Roger Weaver and commend his outstanding
dedication to sports and the young athletes he has inspired and guided in
recreation league sports.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Roger Weaver.
