RESOLUTION
Commending
and honoring the Reverend Rufus H. Burns; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
for more than 50 years, Reverend Rufus H. Burns has selflessly and faithfully
dedicated himself to ministering to his community and providing spiritual
guidance to his congregants; and
WHEREAS,
Reverend Burns earned his Master of Divinity degree and, in 2004, received his
Doctorate of Divinity degree from Covington Theological Seminary;
and
WHEREAS,
Reverend Burns is the founder and undershepherd of Tremont Park Baptist Church
and the moderator of the Tremont Christian Union; and
WHEREAS,
he has served as pastor of Little Bryant Baptist Church for 27 years, New Hope
Baptist Church for 23 years, and Union Branch Baptist Church for eight years;
and
WHEREAS,
he is the loving husband of Mrs. Lavonne Myers Burns and the proud father of
five sons and one daughter; and
WHEREAS,
Reverend Burns is one of an elite group of clergy that has been recognized by
Our Brother’s Keeper of Savannah and Chatham County for numerous years of
dedicated service and spiritual guidance to his congregation and
community.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Reverend Rufus H. Burns and honor his 50 years of steadfast
service and faithful devotion to God's work in the Savannah
community.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Reverend
Rufus H. Burns.
