A RESOLUTION

Honoring Reverend Harold Baker; and for other purposes

WHEREAS, Reverend Harold Baker, Pastor Emeritus of Second Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, Inc. in Savannah, Georgia, retired on September 30, 2003, after 35 years of strong and faithful leadership; and

WHEREAS, under his leadership at Second Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, the church grew in membership and in its ministries; and

WHEREAS, his progressive Christian beliefs moved the fellowship into innovative areas of evangelism, education, and social ministry; and

WHEREAS, he was instrumental in the establishment of the Second Ebenezer Day Care Center, Inc., one of the oldest continuously operated day care centers in the City of Savannah; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Baker delivered God's Word to many and he recognized the importance of learning, teaching, and making God's Word relevant in the Christian's daily life; and

WHEREAS, he serves as a mentor to young pastors and preachers throughout the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, he was one of the founding members of the New Era Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia, Inc. more than 40 years ago; and

WHEREAS, he is a veteran of the Korean Conflict, a retired postman, past director of Opportunities Industrial Center, and CEO of the Harold Ruth Corporation; and

WHEREAS, he and his wife Ruth have been married for more than 50 years and are the parents of one son, Lorenzo, and one daughter, Melissa; the grandparents of three grandsons; and the great grandparents of two.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body honor and commend Reverend Harold Baker for a long and distinguished career of service to God and to mankind and convey their respect and gratitude to him.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Reverend Harold Baker.
