RESOLUTION
Honoring
former First Lady Rosalynn Carter; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
former First Lady Rosalynn Carter has worked for more than three decades to
improve the quality of life for people around the world as an advocate for
mental health, early childhood immunization, caregiving, and human rights;
and
WHEREAS,
since first serving on the Governor's Commission on Mental Health as First Lady
of Georgia, she has provided critical leadership at both the national and
international levels addressing the needs of people suffering from mental and
emotional disorders; and
WHEREAS,
as founder and President of the Board of Directors of the Rosalynn Carter
Institute for Caregiving at Georgia Southwestern State University, her alma
mater in Americus, Georgia, she has brought national attention to efforts to
promote the mental health and well-being of individuals, families, and
professional caregivers; and
WHEREAS,
throughout the State of Georgia, the Rosalynn Carter Institute has initiated
local CARE-NETs, coalitions of lay and professional caregivers to provide
crucial support for caregivers across the lifespan; and
WHEREAS,
in 1994, Mrs. Carter authored a book entitled
Helping
Yourself Help Others: A Book for
Caregivers; and
WHEREAS,
in addition to her work with the Rosalynn Carter Institute, she serves as vice
chair of the Board of Trustees of the Carter Center; and as a full partner with
President Jimmy Carter in all of the center's activities, she has worked
tirelessly to wage peace, fight disease, and build hope for millions of people
in 65 countries around the world.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body honor and commend former First Lady Rosalynn Carter and express their
gratitude for her commitment to public service and her contributions to the
world.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs.
Rosalynn Carter.
