RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Operation Sandbox GA, its co-founders, Julie and Virginia
Pearson, and the members of Park Place Baptist Church in Snellville, Georgia;
and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
in November, 2004, Julie and Virginia Pearson founded Operation Sandbox GA, an
effort to boost the morale of American troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan by
sending them letters and care packages; and
WHEREAS,
Operation Sandbox GA has received an overwhelming response from the members of
Park Place Baptist Church in Snellville, Georgia, as well as other churches and
local organizations and businesses; and
WHEREAS,
because of the efforts of this generous community, Operation Sandbox GA
collected over 7,000 items for care packages which reached over 2,400 service
members in Iraq and Afghanistan by November 28, 2004, and has also provided
support to injured Marines by sending them get-well cards with heartfelt
messages of encouragement and appreciation; and
WHEREAS,
the members of this community have joined together to donate items, raise
postage, pack boxes, write letters, and work behind the scenes in order to
realize the important mission of this outstanding and exemplary organization;
and
WHEREAS,
it is highly fitting and proper that this body recognize the hard work and
patriotism of the numerous members and supporters of Operation Sandbox
GA.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize outstanding success of Operation Sandbox GA and commend
Julie and Virginia Pearson and the members of Park Place Baptist Church of
Snellville, Georgia, for their inspiring patriotism and their extraordinary
contribution to the comfort and welfare of our troops.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to Julie and
Virginia Pearson, co-founders, Operation Sandbox GA and Park Place Baptist
Church of Snellville, Georgia.
