RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Reverend Dr. William Franklin Stokes II; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
on August 18, 2004, Our
Brotheŕs
Keeper in Savannah held an awards ceremony to recognize and honor men and women
who helped compile an unparalleled legacy of more than 40 years of good work and
service rendered to the community; and
WHEREAS,
among the names of honorees was that of Reverend Dr. William Franklin Stokes II
who was born in Sumter County, South Carolina, and pursued his higher education
at Northwestern University, Frelinghuysen University, Wake Forest College, and
Washington Baptist Seminary; and
WHEREAS,
at the end of his many years as an intelligent, articulate, and caring minister,
he retired from the active pastorate on November 7, 1999, after 14 years as
pastor of Brownsville Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS,
his many years of dedicated service in the
Lord́s
name earned him the love of not only his own flock but of citizens of all
persuasions, who knew him to be a loving and kind-hearted person always willing
to go the extra mile with anyone who needed his help; and
WHEREAS,
his memory is cherished by his devoted wife of 54 years, Dr. Ethel P. Stokes,
three children, 13 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize Reverend Dr. William Franklin Stokes II as a giant of
community service and commend his many years of action on behalf of his fellows.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Reverend Dr. William Franklin Stokes II.
