RESOLUTION
Honoring
Reverend Jesse Allen Blackshear; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Reverend Jesse Allen Blackshear is a native of Savannah, Georgia, and was
licensed as a minister in March, 1964; and
WHEREAS,
he was the first Black elected to public office from the east side of Savannah,
serving with dedication as State Representative for three terms, beginning in
1970; and
WHEREAS,
he has inspired congregations in churches in Savannah, Georgia; Altoona,
Pennsylvania; and Johnson City, Tennessee; and
WHEREAS,
he currently serves as Associate Minister of the historic First Bryan Baptist
Church and Dean of the Bryan Theological Seminary; and
WHEREAS,
he has provided vision and valuable leadership in his roles as President of the
Savannah Baptist Ministers’ Union, member of the Advisory Board for
Project Azuka, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Resurrection House
Project; and
WHEREAS,
he and his wife, Carolyn S. Blackshear, have been blessed with two daughters and
four grandchildren.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body honor Reverend Jesse Allen Blackshear for his dynamic leadership,
faithful service, and many valuable contributions to his community.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Reverend
Jesse Allen Blackshear.
