RESOLUTION
Recognizing
Echols County and the Lake Park area of Lowndes County as the Carrot Capital of
the South; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Echols County and the Lake Park area of Lowndes County have established a
leading role in the production and processing of carrots, with over 140 million
pounds of annual production; and
WHEREAS,
a majority of the carrot production in Georgia is in this area and it makes
Georgia the number two state in volume of carrot production, behind only
California, and the leading state in the southeast; and
WHEREAS,
carrot production in the area has grown tremendously over the last five years,
contributing to a 57 percent increase in farm land in Echols County, a 65
percent increase in average farm size, a 350 percent increase in market gate
value, and a 373 percent increase in market value per farm; and
WHEREAS,
those who have played a leading role in developing carrot production and
processing in the area should be commended for their important contributions to
the economy and well-being of the State of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
the area production of this important and healthy crop is an important
achievement and worthy of recognition and acclaim.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body hereby
recognizes Echols County and the Lake Park area of Lowndes County as the Carrot
Capital of the South.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House is authorized and directed to
transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to the appropriate local
officials and organizations in Echols County and the Lake Park area of Lowndes
County.
