RESOLUTION
Commending
Honorable John Yates; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
our
natiońs
security continues to rely on patriotic men and women who put their personal
lives on hold in order to place themselves in
harḿs
way to protect the freedoms that all United States citizens cherish;
and
WHEREAS,
Honorable John Yates has long been recognized by the citizens of this nation for
the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment
to the welfare of the citizens of the United States; and
WHEREAS,
this native son of Spalding County diligently and conscientiously served his
country with honor and distinction as a member of the United States military
during World War II; and
WHEREAS,
this extraordinary combat veteran played a key role in opening the battle lines
at the Battle of the Bulge and was a military observer of the liberation of
Dachau Concentration Camp; and
WHEREAS,
following his stellar military service he began a 35 year career with Ford Motor
Company; and
WHEREAS,
he followed this with yet another career when he entered politics in 1989 and
began faithfully representing the citizens of Spalding County with dynamic
distinction, steadfast dedication, and ardent ability during his tenure as a
member of the House of Representatives; and
WHEREAS,
his thoughtful and well reasoned consideration of the complex matters brought
to this chamber and his unquestioned integrity and unmatched work ethic earned
him the honor, respect, and trust of his colleagues over the years and were
recognized through his many committee responsibilities, which included serving
as chairman of the House Committee on Defense and Veterans Affairs and as a
member of the House Committee on Appropriations, the House Committee on Higher
Education, the House Committee on Reapportionment, and the House Committee on
Motor Vehicles; and
WHEREAS,
the gentleman from the 73rd District has demonstrated during his service in this
body the level of leadership ideally expected of elected officials, and of
members of the House of Representatives in particular; and
WHEREAS,
his selfless and heroic actions stand as a shining tribute to the strength of
human spirit and willpower and will always serve as a reminder that "freedom is
not free," and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding
accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished American be recognized
appropriately.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Honorable John Yates for his efficient, effective, unselfish,
and dedicated public service to the citizens of his country and extend to him
their most profound appreciation for all members of the United States military
who stand ever ready to lay the ultimate sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Honorable
John Yates.
