A RESOLUTION

Recognizing Honorable Mary Jeanette Jamieson, State Representative, District 28; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Honorable Mary Jeanette Jamieson was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 1984, and, currently in her eleventh term, she serves as a member of the House Committees on Education, Ways and Means, and Human Relations and Aging; and

WHEREAS, she is highly esteemed by her colleagues in the General Assembly for her intelligence and expertise, her persistent dedication to Georgia's citizens, and the friendship and distinction which she brings to legislative deliberations; and

WHEREAS, prior to her election to the House of Representatives, she provided six years of excellent leadership and service to the Stephens County Board of Commissioners; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Department of Transportation Board of Directors named the intersection of Highway 123 and Highway 365 the "Jeanette Jamieson Intersection" in acknowledgment of her valuable contributions to transportation and to her district; and

WHEREAS, she has been named the number one major "Mover and Shaker" for Toccoa and Stephens County for three years and, as such, became the first member of that hall of fame; and

WHEREAS, she has helped to pave the way for other women leaders and is the first woman in state history to be elected as president of the Georgia Association of Conservation District Supervisors; and

WHEREAS, she is the first woman to serve as Governor's Floor Leader, the first woman elected to the Georgia General Assembly from the Ninth Congressional District, and the first woman chairman of a major House committee; and
WHEREAS, on February 20, 2002, she received the Tom Murphy State Service Award in recognition of the outstanding record she has established during her many years in the Georgia House; and

WHEREAS, as a busy mother and grandmother as well as a highly successful and respected businesswoman, she has raised three wonderful children and enjoys spending time with her three precious grandchildren in addition to managing Jamieson Accounting and Tax Service in Toccoa, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Honorable Jeanette Jamieson was honored in Washington, D.C., on March 2, 2005, by induction into the National Rural Development Hall of Fame as one of only two inductees from the entire southeastern United States.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in recognizing Honorable Mary Jeanette Jamieson for her many years of exemplary public service to the State of Georgia and extend their sincere congratulations on her induction to the National Rural Development Hall of Fame.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Honorable Mary Jeanette Jamieson.
