A RESOLUTION

Honoring and recognizing Gordon Ozell Wright, Sr., and Dorothy Barbre Wright on the occasion of their 70th wedding anniversary; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Gordon Ozell Wright, Sr., and Dorothy Barbre Wright will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary on April 28, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Gordon Ozell Wright, Sr., and Dorothy Barbre Wright have long been recognized for the vital role that they have played in providing leadership and in serving the citizens of their community and this state; and

WHEREAS, Gordon Ozell Wright, Sr., and Dorothy Barbre Wright have diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of their time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of their community and state as evidenced dramatically by Ozelĺs service in the United States Army in World War II in France and Germany in 1944-45 as part of an infantry machine gun unit; by Ozelĺs lifetime membership in the American Legion; by Ozell and Dorothýs ownership and operation of Wright́s Feed and Seed in downtown Albany for over 35 years; by Ozelĺs service as president of the Albany Lions Club and his induction into the South Georgia AAAA Hall of Fame; by Ozell and Dorothýs membership in and service to the First United Methodist Church of Albany for over 50 years; by Dorothýs service as a member of the Womańs Society of Christian Service for over 30 years and as a member of the Elnora Hawke Sunday School Class for 50 years; and by Ozelĺs service as president of the Hudson Malone Sunday School Class, chairman of the Trustees and Pastor-Parish Relations Committee, and as an usher at the church for almost 60 years at over 2,000 services and more than 100 funerals; and

WHEREAS, their significant organizational and leadership talents, their remarkable patience and diplomacy, their keen sense of vision, and their sensitivities have earned them the respect and admiration of their colleagues and associates; and

WHEREAS, they are persons of magnanimous strengths with unimpeachable reputations for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished couple be appropriately recognized on their 70th wedding anniversary.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Gordon Ozell Wright, Sr., and Dorothy Barbre Wright on 70 years of marriage and for their many years of efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated service to their country, community, and church and extend to them their most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Gordon Ozell Wright, Sr., and Dorothy Barbre Wright.
