A RESOLUTION

Recognizing Arts Clayton; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Arts Clayton has achieved a significant milestone by moving into an artfully restored historic structure to anchor downtown revitalization in Jonesboro as the county seat of Clayton County; and

WHEREAS, Arts Clayton is committed to showcasing the best of our state by providing venues to exhibit the talents of our people, utilizing the arts as an economic generator for our businesses, and supporting arts education in our schools and universities; and

WHEREAS, Arts Clayton has successfully implemented services which affect every aspect of community development, including the economy, social problem solving, job creation, education, individual creativity, and community livability; and

WHEREAS, Arts Clayton invests in lifelong learning opportunities, beginning with ArtVan as a "read to succeed" mobile learning lab for students and summer art camps and as a safe summer initiative for children, which leads up to art classes and workshops for students, teens, adults, and seniors; and

WHEREAS, Arts Clayton plays a key role in sustaining the economic vibrancy of our state by supporting local businesses, providing quality art events to increase cultural tourism, and thereby utilizing travelers along I-75 to create a major tourism corridor for the state; and

WHEREAS, Arts Clayton serves as a model of inclusiveness by promoting the positive aspects of Clayton County's diverse citizenry, and by making available art programs and activities for all ages and all families in Clayton County, initiatives helping to establish Clayton County as the Cultural Crossroads of the south metro area; and

WHEREAS, Arts Clayton is a recognized leader in the arts with representatives serving on the board and panels of Georgia Council for the Arts, regranting state funds through the Grassroots Art Program, and operating a Fine Arts Gallery which is open to all Georgia artists.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize the important contributions of Arts Clayton – their board, staff, and volunteers – to visitors and citizens of Clayton County and the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Arts Clayton.
