A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Dr. Samuel Taylor; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Dr. Samuel Taylor has provided excellent medical care to the women of Valdosta, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, growing up in a Georgia farming family, his parents encouraged him to excel at school, and, after graduating from high school as valedictorian, he received his bachelor's and master's degree in animal science before realizing that his true calling was to become a doctor; and

WHEREAS, receiving acceptance to the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, he then interned at the University of Ohio, Toledo, and served his OB-GYN residency in Chattanooga, Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, he began practicing medicine in July of 1983 in Eastman, Georgia, but at the prompting of a college friend, he soon relocated to Valdosta to provide much needed medical services to its African American community; and

WHEREAS, as Valdosta's first African American obstetrician-gynecologist, he overcame initial resistance to develop a successful practice, earning a reputation for his wonderful bedside manner and the high quality of care he delivers to each of his patients, regardless of race; and

WHEREAS, over the past 20 years, he has delivered thousands of local babies, and has raised three outstanding children with his wife Julia, each of whom are studying medicine and are expected to join his practice at Comprehensive Women's Health; and

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia is honored to count this dedicated and distinguished doctor among its citizens.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join to recognize Dr. Samuel Taylor and commend his outstanding service to the Valdosta community.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Samuel Taylor.
