RESOLUTION
Welcoming
and thanking the citizens, employees, and public officials of the City of
Columbus, declaring March 11, 2005, Columbus Day at the capitol, and inviting
the city's selected delegates to appear before the House of Representatives; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
a healthy democracy demands an active interchange of ideas between citizens and
their elected representatives, and public officials and citizens from Columbus,
Georgia, are coming to Atlanta to meet with the area's legislative delegation;
and
WHEREAS,
the views of elected officials from the cities and counties of the state are
always deeply interesting to members of the General Assembly, and the citizens
and public officials from the City of Columbus will offer invaluable advice and
counsel to their legislative delegation during this legislative visit;
and
WHEREAS,
founded on the Chattahoochee River in 1828, Columbus has grown into Georgia's
third largest city, whose citizens benefit from the proud heritage and great
natural beauty that exists alongside its many economic and educational
opportunities; and
WHEREAS,
Columbus is the proud home of Georgia's official state theatre, the Springer
Opera House and, since the establishment of Fort Benning in 1918, the United
States Infantry; and
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia is strengthened by communities like Columbus that value
their heritage while embracing the diversity and industry of our modern
society.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body declare March 11, 2005, Columbus Day at the capitol and extend their
warmest welcome and sincere gratitude to the citizens, employees, and public
officials of the City of Columbus.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the selected delegates of the City of Columbus are
invited to the House of Representatives for the purposes of being recognized by
the House and receiving an appropriate copy of this resolution at a date and
time to be fixed by the Speaker of the House.
