RESOLUTION
Honoring
and remembering the life of Mayor Augustus Pou "Gus" Persons III; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Augustus Pou "Gus" Persons III was born on March 9, 1940, in Macon, Georgia, the
son of Elizabeth Pharr Persons and the late Augustus Pou Persons, Jr.;
and
WHEREAS,
he attended the Georgia Institute of Technology, graduated from the University
of Georgia, and received his master's degree from Louisiana State University;
and
WHEREAS,
in 1986, he began his service as the mayor of Talbotton, providing excellent
leadership for the city, and displayed great energy, ability, and integrity
throughout his tenure; and
WHEREAS,
he was a devoted family man with three sons and two grandsons with whom he
shared his love of the outdoors as an avid hunter and concerned advocate of
environmental preservation; and
WHEREAS,
with the passing of Mayor Persons, the City of Talbotton and the State of
Georgia have lost one of their most esteemed citizens and public
servants.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join together to express their sorrow at the passing of Mayor Augustus
Pou "Gus" Persons III and extend their sincere condolences to his family and the
City of Talbotton.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Mayor Augustus Pou "Gus" Persons III and the City of Talbotton.
