A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
John S. McElmurray; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
John S. McElmurray is a native of Augusta, Georgia, who has made enormous
contributions to his community and to the State of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
he graduated from Hephzibah High School and is a 1943 graduate of the University
of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
in 1946, he was united in marriage to his lovely wife, Mary, and they are the
proud parents of Mary Margaret Bagwell and John McElmurray, Jr.;
and
WHEREAS,
he was the owner and operator of a family dairy farm until 1952;
and
WHEREAS,
he was employed with the Georgia Department of Agriculture for 30 years;
and
WHEREAS,
he and his wife live in the same home where he grew up, and it was there that he
personally witnessed the development of rural electrification, which sparked a
new way of living in rural Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. McElmurray made an extensive commitment to the electric cooperative
industry and, for 53 years, from 1946 through 1999, he served with great
distinction and integrity as a member of the Board of Directors of the Jefferson
Energy Cooperative and was the third president of that organization;
and
WHEREAS,
he was a dedicated leader committed to the goal of providing quality electric
service to consumers, and the major strides and accomplishments of that early
electric cooperative were largely due to his leadership.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body honor John S. McElmurray for his extraordinary service to the electric
cooperative industry, his community, and to the State of Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to John S.
McElmurray.
