RESOLUTION
Commending
Charles and Louise Strickland; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Charles and Louise Strickland have helped improve the quality of life in Newton
County since 1962 through their community service; and
WHEREAS,
Charles Strickland served honorably with the Marine Corps in Korea from 1951 to
1952; and
WHEREAS,
after locating to Newton County in 1962, Mr. Strickland was one of the founders
of the Newton County Republican Party and through his tireless efforts helped
bring about a two party system in the county; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs.
Strickland́s
commitment to community service included her service as Chair of the Newton
County Republican Party, membership in the Newton County
Womańs
Club, Garden Club, Alcovyettes-Shriners, and Republican
Womeńs
Club, and numerous other offices within the Republican Party; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. and Mrs. Strickland have been proudly married to each other for more than 52
years; and
WHEREAS,
this exemplary couple has led efforts which saw their party move from the
minority to majority position in both state and local elections and their work
toward this end is widely admired and appreciated; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. and Mrs. Strickland have served their community with dignity and grace and
are considered two of the most respected citizens of Newton County.
NOW
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body
congratulate Charles and Louise Strickland on their dedication and public
service to the citizens of Newton County, and extend to them their best wishes
for continued success in the future.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Charles and
Louise Strickland.
