RESOLUTION
Commending
Dean Janice C. Griffith; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Dean Janice C. Griffith served with distinction throughout her tenure as Dean of
the Georgia State University College of Law; and her vision, leadership, and
dedication enabled the law school to emerge as a leader in innovative legal
education; and
WHEREAS,
her vision of the College of Law as a community of scholars who reach out to the
community to solve pressing problems led to many successful collaborative
partnerships, including the Electronic Court Filing Project, the creation of the
State Law, Legislation, and Policy Center to assist Georgia General Assembly
committees by providing student legal research, and the Conflict Resolution in
Schools Program; and
WHEREAS,
she strengthened the academic program by encouraging interdisciplinary
collaboration, leading to several new joint degree programs, and by greatly
expanding its curriculum, including a study abroad program in International
Commercial Arbitration; and
WHEREAS,
she greatly increased private support, resulting in the addition of 7,500 square
feet to the Law Library and 2,600 square feet of classroom space and the
upgrading of the College's classrooms and courtroom with state-of-the-art
technology; and
WHEREAS,
she provided notable public and professional service throughout her deanship,
including service as chair of the American Bar Association's Section of State
and Local Government Law and chair of the Planning Committee for the Association
of American Law School's Workshop for New Law Teachers.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize the outstanding achievements of Dean Janice C. Griffith's
service as Dean of the Georgia State University College of Law and express their
appreciation for her continued academic
service.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dean Janice C. Griffith and Dr. Carl V. Patton, president of Georgia State University.
