RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and honoring Sister Cecelia Kirkland; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Sister Cecelia Kirkland is an active and dedicated senior member of Portersville
Missionary Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS,
in August 1939, the year that Reverend Tanksley preached the revival at
Porterville, Sister Cecelia Kirkland was baptized by Reverend O. S. Scott in
Rosemary Creek with Martha Hart, Virginia Jones, and Shepherd Archie;
and
WHEREAS,
her favorite scripture is the 23rd Psalm, and her hymn of choice is "A Charge to
Keep I Have"; and
WHEREAS,
her connections with Portersville Missionary Baptist Church run through several
generations, including her grandfather Reverend Dennis Kirkland, her father
Ashley Spence, and her mother Bessie Kirkland White; and
WHEREAS,
the senior members of Portersville Missionary Baptist Church will be the
honored guests at a dinner on Saturday, February 26, 2005, celebrating Black
History Month through the theme "Remembering our Past, Living the Present, and
Preparing for Eternity"; and
WHEREAS,
on this grand occasion, it is highly fitting and proper that this body recognize
the many years of devoted service that this distinguished lady has given to
Portersville Missionary Baptist Church.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in recognizing and honoring Sister Cecelia Kirkland, an esteemed
senior member of Portersville Missionary Baptist Church.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Sister
Cecelia Kirkland.
