A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and honoring Sister Hattie Bessent Carpenter; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Sister Hattie Bessent Carpenter is a dedicated senior member of Portersville Missionary Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, in 1932, Sister Hattie Bessent Carpenter was baptized in Rosemary Creek by Reverend O. S. Scott; and

WHEREAS, her home church is New Emanuel Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, where she resides, and during her time at Portersville, she was an active member of the choir; and

WHEREAS, her connections with Portersville Missionary Baptist Church run through several generations, including her paternal grandparents, Reverend William Henry and Frances Reeves Bessent, her maternal grandparents, William and Cheney Sills, and her parents, William and Hattie Sills Bessent; and

WHEREAS, the senior members of Portersville Missionary Baptist Church will be the honored guests at a dinner on Saturday, February 26, 2005, celebrating Black History Month through the theme "Remembering our Past, Living the Present, and Preparing for Eternity"; and

WHEREAS, on this grand occasion, it is highly fitting and proper that this body recognize the many years of devoted service that this distinguished lady has given to Portersville Missionary Baptist Church.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in recognizing and honoring Sister Hattie Bessent Carpenter, an esteemed senior member of Portersville Missionary Baptist Church.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Sister Hattie Bessent Carpenter.
