A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Christian City and the Christian City Home for Children; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Christian City was chartered in 1962 for the purpose of providing care for
abused and abandoned children, and the aged and infirm according to Christian
principles; and
WHEREAS,
thousands of people have embraced the vision of the original founders and
participated in and supported the establishment and growth of a community of
faith, hope, and ministry to all people in need without regard to race,
religion, or national origin; and
WHEREAS,
Christian City opened its first facility, the Christian City Home for Children,
and accepted its first resident child in February, 1965; and
WHEREAS,
the Christian City Home for Children has continually operated for 40 years,
caring for over a 1000 children in a loving and stable home environment with
full-time house parents, social workers and administrative staff, and active
volunteers; and
WHEREAS,
Christian City has grown from one cottage for children on 50 acres of land
donated by Dr. and Mrs. Byron Harper to 500 acres of land housing a skilled
nursing facility, an assisted living and personal care home, an Alzheimer's
Disease Center, a thrift store, and hundreds of apartments for seniors on
limited incomes, as well as hundreds of patio homes for independent senior
citizens; and
WHEREAS,
over 1,000 children and seniors receive care and ministry each day;
and
WHEREAS,
thousands of families have received comfort, care, and support throughout the
last 40 years; and
WHEREAS,
Christian City has made a significant contribution to the welfare of families
throughout the local community, surrounding area, and State of Georgia, raising
the quality of life for thousands of people who might otherwise have been denied
the benefits of such care; and
WHEREAS,
Christian City continues to be a leader in the community in the care for
children at risk, the sick and infirm, and the senior population;
and
WHEREAS,
Christian City continues to evolve as the needs of the community change, and now
begins the next 40 years by breaking ground on a new home for children designed
to provide facilities and services to address the growing needs of our children;
and
WHEREAS,
Christian City continues to be committed to the growing and evolving needs of
the senior members of the community by providing care and ministry according to
Christian principles; and
WHEREAS,
Christian City remains committed to the betterment of the local community, the
State of Georgia, and the world in general.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in recognizing and commending the invaluable work of Christian
City and the Christian City Home for Children and extend their sincere gratitude
for their long standing commitment to the citizens of Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Christian
City.
