A
RESOLUTION
Commending
the rich history of movies filmed in Rabun County, Georgia, and announcing a
community based initiative of archival preservation of the movies and their
economic impact called "The Reels of Rabun"; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
The Clayton
Tribune researched and published a
marvelous documentary recollection of motion pictures filmed in Rabun County
during the past five decades; and
WHEREAS,
movies of grand and regionalized scale selected the grandeur of Rabun County
with its pristine mountains, rushing rivers, the state's deepest natural gorge,
and the serenity and beauty of life in small communities; and
WHEREAS,
the movies attracted millions of viewers, legions of famous film stars,
legendary directors, producers, and supporting casts, moments of film stardom
for local personalities, and the legendary acclaim as "Georgia's Movie Capital";
and
WHEREAS,
movies included The
Great Locomotive Chase, Deliverance, Million Dollar Dixie Deliverance, I'd Climb
the Highest Mountain, The Long Riders, The Four Seasons, Grizzly, Whiskey
Mountain, Long Walk to Forever, John Schneider: Back Home, Angel City, Baker
County, USA, Blastfighter, Kelsey and Son, Foxfire, The Judas Project,
Trapped, and
Decoration
Day; and
WHEREAS,
the filming in Rabun County brought in famous industry personalities including
Walt Disney, Fess Parker, Jeff Hunter, Chuck Connors, Carol Burnett, Alan Alda,
Henry Silva, Jessica Tandy, John Denver, Burt Reynolds, Jon Voight, Ned Beatty,
Ronny Cox, Hume Cronyn, James Garner, Laurence Fishburne, James and Stacy Keach,
Randy and Dennis Quaid, Christopher and Nicholas Guest, David Carradine, and
others.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend The
Clayton Tribune for documenting Rabun
County's rich history with the motion picture industry and extend their best
wishes for the success of "The Reels of Rabun."
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to the Georgia
Film, Video and Music Commission and the Rabun County Chamber of
Commerce.
