A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Anita L. Thomaston for her outstanding contributions to education; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, for her outstanding talent and dedication as an educator, Ms. Anita L. Thomaston has been selected as Clayton County's Teacher of the Year 2004-2005; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Thomaston has been a beloved and admired teacher at J. W. Arnold Elementary School, Swint Elementary School, and Adamson Middle School where she has taught Language Arts, Reading, Science, and Interdisciplinary Gifted classes; and

WHEREAS, constantly seeking out opportunities to improve her teaching methods and the quality of education received by her students, Ms. Thomaston has attended numerous staff development courses and as a Ph.D. student at Georgia State University is currently focusing on factors which influence student achievement, an important area of research for developing innovative and effective teaching strategies; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Thomaston has been actively involved with numerous school committees and activities and has shared her knowledge and expertise with her fellow teachers, developing and teaching a staff development course for Clayton County Public Schools and making presentations at regional and national conferences; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Thomaston is a shining example of the important impact that the efforts of individual classroom teachers are making on the quality of education received by the children of this state and it is abundantly fitting and proper that her superlative accomplishments be recognized appropriately.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body heartily and gratefully commend Ms. Anita L. Thomaston for her sacrifice, foresight, accomplishment, and contributions on behalf of education in Georgia and for the positive influence she has had upon the lives and futures of so many young people in this state and congratulate her upon her selection as Clayton County's Teacher of the Year.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Anita L. Thomaston.
