RESOLUTION
Honoring
Norman A. Woodard; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Norman A. Woodard, a native Atlantan, was born September 13, 1931;
and
WHEREAS,
he is a product of the Atlanta Public School System where he graduated from
Booker T. Washington High School in 1950, and then attended Morehouse College
prior to being drafted into the military services in 1951; and
WHEREAS,
he served with the Second Marine Air Wing for the United States Marines until
1953; and
WHEREAS,
he then attended the Academy of Aeronautics where he became certified as an
Aviation Structure Technician and took his very first job with Eastern Airlines;
and
WHEREAS,
in 1956, he united with the now late Robbie Mae Hendrix-Woodard in holy
matrimony, and this marriage of 44 years produced three children: Calpurnia
Marvice, Rudell Ontaga, and Toki Daorea; and
WHEREAS,
raised as a Master Mason in 1960 and installed as a Worshipful Master Mason of
the Evening Star, Lodge #611 in 1962, he was also given the honor of Special
District Deputy Grand Master for the State of Georgia at Large in 1964;
and
WHEREAS,
in 1976, he was appointed as Deputy Grand Master of the State of Georgia by
Grand Master J. W. Lemon; and
WHEREAS,
he was elected as Grand Master of the Smooth Ashlar Grand Lodge Free and
Accepted Ancient York Rite Masons, P.H.O. National Compact, Inc. U.S.A. in 1983,
a position he held and served assiduously for 13 years; and
WHEREAS,
he accomplished a plethora of worthy goals during his tenure in this position;
and
WHEREAS,
in 1996, he was elected to the position of National Grand Master of the Most
Worshipful Grand Lodge, F.A.A.A. York Rite Masons, P.H.O. National Compact, Inc.
U.S.A. and accomplished an overwhelming number of projects and achieved all the
goals he set out to achieve; and
WHEREAS,
he serves diligently in the Dixie Hills First Baptist Church where he has been a
member since 1942 and currently serves on the Board of Deacons, the Trustee
Board, and the Committee on Church Anniversary and as the Superintendent of
Sunday School and C.E.O. of the Committee on Constitution and By-laws;
and
WHEREAS,
he also now serving as the second Vice President of the Congress of Christian
Education, which is an auxiliary of the Atlanta Missionary Baptist Association;
and
WHEREAS,
Norman A. Woodard is a rare and extraordinary individual who has dedicated his
life to serving his community and who has truly made a difference in the lives
of countless numbers of citizens throughout this state, and it is abundantly
fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this distinguished
Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members join
in honoring the life and achievements of Norman A. Woodard and commend his many
years of service to his community and to the citizens of the State of
Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Norman A.
Woodard.
