RESOLUTION
Recognizing
District Attorney Investigator Jimmy Jones, Peace Officer of the Year for Valor,
commending his outstanding performance, and inviting him to appear before the
House of Representatives; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
District Attorney Investigator Jimmy Jones has been chosen Officer of the Year
for Valor by the Peace Officers Association of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
on September 18, 2003, a man started swinging a baseball bat inside the crowded
Peach County Court House, striking people and causing serious injury to some
within the crowd; and
WHEREAS,
after notifying the
sheriff́s
office and calling for medical assistance, Investigator Jones immediately rushed
to the scene and discovered the man standing on the court house lawn with the
baseball bat in a threatening position; and
WHEREAS,
the man ignored his orders to lower the bat and continued to threaten both
Investigator Jones and several other officers who had arrived on the scene;
and
WHEREAS,
when the man charged at him with the bat, Investigator Jones, forced to defend
himself and others, shot the suspect once and then monitored his condition until
medical assistance arrived; and
WHEREAS,
he unselfishly put his life on the line to protect his fellow law enforcement
officers and to ensure the safety of the public, and his quick actions not only
prevented further injury but also resulted in the apprehension of the suspect;
and
WHEREAS,
his unflinching resolve and dedicated service exemplify the highest ideals of
public service and bring honor to all who valiantly serve in law
enforcement.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend District Attorney Investigator Jimmy Jones for having been
selected Peace Officer of the Year for Valor by the Peace Officers Association
of Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that District Attorney Investigator Jimmy Jones is invited
to the House of Representatives for purposes of being recognized by the House
and receiving an appropriate copy of this resolution at a date and time to be
fixed by the Speaker of the House.
