A RESOLUTION

Commending First Newark Baptist Church; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, First Newark Baptist Church at 225 Russell Road in Thomasville, Georgia, began as a mission in 1996 with a small core group of committed believers; and

WHEREAS, in 1997 First Newark Baptist Church was constituted as a church affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention, Georgia Baptist Convention, and the Thomas County Baptist Association; and

WHEREAS, since 1997, the church has been doubly blessed by God, adding many new members, constructing a 12,000 square foot Family Life Center, and expanding and renovating the worship center; and

WHEREAS, in 2004, Pastor Dr. Mike Keown felt the leadership of God to offer himself to represent the people of Thomas and Grady counties in the Georgia House of Representatives; and

WHEREAS, the members of First Newark Baptist Church rallied around their pastor and supported his successful campaign; and

WHEREAS, in the pastor's absence, lay leaders have emerged to ensure that the ministry of First Newark Baptist Church has not faltered; and

WHEREAS, pastor and state representative Dr. Mike Keown wishes to thank the members of First Newark Baptist Church for all their prayers and support during his first term in the Georgia House of Representatives.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body commends the membership of First Newark Baptist Church for their commitment and contributions to their community.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to First Newark Baptist Church.
