RESOLUTION
Expressing
regret at the passing of Harold Lewis; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
on February 23, 2006, the State of Georgia lost one of its finest and most
distinguished citizens with the passing of Harold Lewis; and
WHEREAS,
on August 28, 1944, Harold Lewis was born to Henry Leo Lewis and Lillie Mae
Little, who preceded him in death; and
WHEREAS,
as a young boy he was educated in the Atlanta Public School System and attended
David T. Howard High School; and
WHEREAS,
after high school he bravely fought for his country by joining the United States
Marine Corps and serving three tours in Vietnam; and
WHEREAS,
Harold Lewis, affectionately called Brother Askari by his friends, was an artist
who dedicated his life to uplifting and strengthening the cultural arts
throughout Georgia and the United States; and
WHEREAS,
he loved to travel and devoted his time and resources to enhancing African,
African American, and Native American culture; and
WHEREAS,
he was the founding pioneer in establishing vending for small businesses in
Atlanta; and
WHEREAS,
Harold Lewis was a loving father who was a great example of what every parent
should strive to be; and
WHEREAS,
he was the proud father of eight children: Michael Lewis, Anthony Lewis
(Juanita), Mister Lewis, Saudi Lewis, Ade Lewis, Sundiata Lewis, Atu Lewis, and
Jelanie Lewis; and
WHEREAS,
his family also extended to 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two sisters,
two brothers, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives;
and
WHEREAS,
the passing of this great Georgian leaves an unfillable void in the hearts and
lives of his family and friends who will miss his amazing energy and creativity,
his great sense of civic responsibility, his phenomenal ability to make everyone
he met feel special, and most of all his love and support.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body express their deepest and most sincere regret at the passing of Harold
Lewis.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Harold Lewis.
