RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Karen Sturdivant; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
during the course of her extraordinary career, Karen Sturdivant has touched the
lives of countless patients as a leader in creating public awareness of the
effects of tuberculosis; and
WHEREAS,
this Clayton County resident currently serves as the Clayton County
Collaborative Authority Executive Liaison and through her dedicated efforts in
this position has impacted policy formation, implementation, and evaluation of
critical health issues; and
WHEREAS,
since 1997 she has worked tirelessly to create public health coalitions
comprised of medical and executive professionals, focusing on increasing public
awareness of the impact that certain diseases have on African Americans;
and
WHEREAS,
her efforts have been tremendously successful in increasing public awareness of
the highly infectious and potentially deadly disease that is tuberculosis and
its effect on the African American community; and
WHEREAS,
she has facilitated new programs and coordinated the development of new
coalitions targeting medical assistance for families in need, and these efforts
have positively impacted the quality of life for many Georgia citizens, making
Georgia a healthier and happier place to live; and
WHEREAS,
in recognition of her efforts, Karen Sturdivant received the 2004 Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention Award, and on March 24 she will be honored by the
State of Georgia for her pioneering efforts on health issues facing Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
as
Womeńs
History Month, March, 2006, is set aside to celebrate and honor those women who
have contributed their time and talents to the betterment of this state and this
nation, it is only fitting and proper that Karen Sturdivant be recognized on
this highly significant occasion.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in commending Karen Sturdivant for her exemplary public service
to the State of Georgia and in extending their sincere best wishes for her
continued success.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House is authorized and directed to
transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Karen Sturdivant.
