A RESOLUTION

Remembering and honoring the life of Mr. Sherwin Glass; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Georgia lost one of its most honorable and distinguished citizens on December 4, 2005, with the passing of Mr. Sherwin Glass of Atlanta at the age of 79; and

WHEREAS, widely respected for his strong work ethic and business acumen, Mr. Glass founded Farmers Furniture Company in Soperton, Georgia, a business that today comprises 85 stores throughout Georgia and five southeastern states and that employs over 1,600 people; and

WHEREAS, outside of his highly successful business career, Mr. Glass was always dedicated to serving his fellow man and received numerous honors for his laudable work in the community, including the Jewish Federation Lifetime Achievement Award, the Abe Goldstein Human Relations Award, and recognition from Habitat for Humanity and Women in Need of God's Shelter; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Glass leaves behind a loving and devoted family, including his wife, Shirley Glass; his sons and daughter-in-law, Joel Glass, Greg and Elizabeth Glass, Jacob Glass, and Jesse Glass; his stepchildren, Kimberly Kaminsky and Gregg Kaminsky; his grandchildren, David Glass, Joshua Glass, and Ashley Glass; and his sister, Sarah Lee Bush; and

WHEREAS, the death of Mr. Glass has left an unfillable void in the hearts of all who knew and loved this extraordinary gentleman, and he will always be remembered with the greatest affection for his compassion, generosity, integrity, and warm and loving spirit.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in remembering and honoring the life of Mr. Sherwin Glass and extend their most sincere condolences to his family and friends.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Shirley Glass.
