A RESOLUTION

Congratulating the Jonesboro High School mock trial team on winning the Georgia Mock Trial Competition and inviting its members and coaches to appear before the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, a group of 14 talented students from Jonesboro High School has brought great honor to their school and community after winning the Georgia Mock Trial Competition; and

WHEREAS, thanks to countless hours of hard work and the dedication of all the participants, the school's mock trial team captured the state championship with a stellar performance during a simulated criminal trial, thus allowing the team to compete in a national competition this May; and

WHEREAS, led by Coaches Daniel Greer and Honorable John Carbo, the team was composed of the following students: Kayla Delgado, Britt Walden, Lindley Curtis, Laura Parkhouse, Robbie Hannon, Maggie Benefield, Ashley Winsor, Brian Cunningham, Kyle Skinner, Michael Cooke, Amanda Malcom, Marci Thomson, Kyle Winsor, and Kimberly Wallace Stewart; and

WHEREAS, through this experience, the students gained a greater understanding of the legal system while improving their listening, reading, and speaking abilities, skills that will serve them well for the rest of their lives; and

WHEREAS, the members of the Jonesboro High School mock trial team should be very proud of this impressive accomplishment, and it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body to recognize these incredible students on their prestigious victory.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in congratulating the Jonesboro High School mock trial team on winning the Georgia Mock Trial Competition and extend to its participants its best wishes as the team competes in the national championship.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the above-named students and coaches are invited to appear before the House of Representatives for purposes of being recognized by the House and receiving appropriate copies of this resolution at a date and time to be fixed by the Speaker of the House.
