House Resolution 1789

A RESOLUTION

Urging the United States Congress to take action to eliminate untraceable phone records; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, international calling cards are generally untraceable; and

WHEREAS, untraceable calls present a threat to national security and are also often used to perpetrate financial fraud to the detriment of our citizens; and

WHEREAS, the power to control our national telephone system and access thereto from international systems is vested in the federal government and outside the control of the states; and

WHEREAS, action on this subject is needed to protect our nation's security and the financial well-being of our people.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body hereby urges the United States Congress to take appropriate action to eliminate untraceable phone records in this country.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to each member of the Georgia congressional delegation.
